We talked to last year’s Cover Model Winner, Kathleen Betancourt and heard about her experience modeling for the cover of SpaceCoast Living, discovered her favorite places on the Space Coast and what she’s doing now.

How did you hear about the Cover Model Contest last year?
If it wasn’t for Candi Neuweiler, I would’ve never heard of it. She’s the one who told me about it. As soon as she told me I went online and submitted an application along with a photo. So i give all the credit to her for mentioning it to me and leading me to a fun experience.
What was the process like as an applicant after you applied?
After I applied, I remember getting a call from SpaceCoast Living that they wanted me to come in for a small photoshoot. I had to wear jeans and a black shirt. They took photos of me along with many other girls who also had to do this. Then they chose the top 10 girls, put our pictures online and people had to vote on who should win. After that they narrowed me down to one of the top 5 girls, I went to a beautiful house where the photo shoot for the magazine was going to take place. I wore gorgeous dresses and diamonds from head-to-toe. They also had professional hairdressers and amazing makeup artists there who prepared us for the photos hoot. It was truly a very fun experience, and I wouldn’t take back any of it!
What was your reaction when you found out you’d won?
I have never had any previous modeling experience before this, so I was excited when I found out I won! It was a blast modeling for SpaceCoast Living. Everyone was so friendly and nice. My favorite part by far was at the professional photo shoot. Who wouldn’t want to be pampered? Also, I enjoyed working with everyone and meeting new friends throughout the experience. When I first saw the cover on the stands I was just happy. Who would’ve known that applying for a simple application online would lead me to being the Inaugural Cover Model Search Winner?
What are some of your favorite local places/things to do on the Space Coast?
Some of my favorite local places in the Spacecoast area would have to be Cocoa Beach.I love the beach and couldn’t imagine not living near one! Also, I like visiting the Kennedy Space Center, the Brevard Zoo and, of course, the Merrrit Square Mall.
What are you doing now?
Currently I am attending Brevard Community College where I will be finishing up with my AA very soon and then plan on attending University of Central Florida to pursue my degree.
Dream photoshoot?
My dream photo shoot would probably be on an island— somewhere tropical and beautiful. But the Spacecoast Living photo shoot definitely came close with all the diamonds and stunning dresses.
