3rd Annual Star-Spangled Event in conjunction with Eau Gallie Arts District’s First Friday Art Walk

The Eau Gallie Arts District is pleased to announce the 3rd Annual Star-Spangled Event, featuring patriotic activities and competitions taking place in EGAD throughout the daytime and evening hours.  Planned activities for the Star-Spangled Event will include: the Apple Pie Bake-off, the Human Flag, and Bicycle Parade. A plein air painting competition will take place around the Arts District during the morning hours and the finished paintings will be judged and on view in the lobby of the Brevard Art Museum. Special guest judges for the apple pie bake-off will include Suzy Leonard, Florida Today’s Features Editor, Sweetie Pie Baking Company, and Terri Wright, WFIT General Manager. The Eau Gallie Farmers Market will set up on a section of Highland Avenue and will feature fresh produce and crafts. Also, one-off custom created motorcycles from Tempest Cycles will be on display.

In addition to the Star-Spangled Event, the Eau Gallie Arts District will hold its monthly First Friday Art Walk event from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. Art studio, galleries, shops, and restaurants in the Eau Gallie Arts District will remain open late for a free art walk featuring new exhibition openings and receptions in art galleries. Art & Antiques Studio & Gallery will feature members of the Brevard Watercolor Society inside their Courtyard Studio. The Fifth Avenue Art Gallery is hosting member’s only show, titled “American Landscape,” in celebration of the Fourth of July. Highland Art & Studio’s featured artists for July are Linda Krupp and Nancy Sadowski. Area artists will set up in Eau Gallie Square and the Oh Golly Dixie Land Band will perform in the Eau Gallie Square band shell.

Other First Friday Art Walk activities taking place in the Eau Gallie Arts District include Fringe Friday at the Brevard Art Musuem and Ghost Tours at the Historic Rossetter House Museum. Call in advance for Ghost Tour reservations at 321-254-9855, tickets are limited.

To register for the apple pie bake-off and plein air painting competitions call the EGAD Main Street office at 321-752-0463. In addition, volunteers are needed to create the human flag to be photographed by FL Today Newspaper.

The Eau Gallie area of Melbourne was recently designated as the Arts District of Melbourne and a FL Main Street Community. The district includes the Brevard Art Museum, administrative offices of the Brevard Symphony Orchestra, Historic Rossetter House Museum, Eau Gallie Riverfront Library, Eau Gallie Civic Center, two public parks, band shell and newly rebuilt fishing pier. EGAD contains art galleries, art supply stores, artist studios, a B&B and many small merchants and restaurants. The Eau Gallie Farmers Market is held each Saturday at Eau Gallie Square Park from 8 am – 2 pm. The city of Melbourne has re-zoned a residential area within EGAD such that artist may establish studios in their home, providing a special enclave for working artists.
