In the minds of book lovers everywhere, the image of a tall, dark and handsome CEO wearing a silk grey tie will never be forgotten. We asked one of our newest interns, Brooke Austill, to tell us about the captivating series, what people are saying and what to keep an eye out for in the upcoming months.

What People are Talking About

Women and men everywhere are captivated by the “very detailed” love affair between Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. Like most popular novels, the Fifty Shades trilogy has also gained negative attention. For a short period of time, it was banned from several libraries in the United States. After popular demand to put the book back on the shelves, the libraries eventually gave the community what they begged for: provocative details. If you haven’t read this popular series, it is likely someone you know has encouraged you to become engaged in the passionate hero that is Christian Grey.

Summary

The trilogy introduces you to the characters Anastasia Steele, an awkward and shy English major, and Christian Grey, a handsome and wealthy CEO of Grey Enterprises. When Anastasia is asked to fill in for her best friend and interview Mr. Grey for her university’s newspaper, the enigmatic man with smoldering grey eyes intrigues her. As they begin their steamy love affair, Anastasia is introduced to the intense sexual dominance that Christian longs for. While Anastasia isn’t sure how to feel about his lifestyle, she soon learns the mystery that lies beneath his dark grey eyes.

There are three books in the trilogy: Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed. Each book takes you on a new journey of the their lives together, and each volume is filled with erotic, steamy details.

Brooke’s Thoughts

After I read the first installment of 50 Shades, the characters soon captivated me. I became addicted to the plot, and all the obstacles that Christian and Ana run into. While the sexual descriptions may take some getting used to, they are definitely an essential element in the novel. I believe that without the descriptive details of dominance, you simply wouldn’t understand the character of Christian Grey. I recommend that if you are planning to start the series, you have all of the novels on hand. After you finish one, you are going to begin the next book immediately.
