Fresh & Local |Islands Fish Grill: fish with an attitude

Locals and visitors alike love Islands Fish Grill. Just steps away from Indialantic’s Boardwalk beach on Fifth Avenue, the restaurant has been open for 16 years.

Then in August of 2014, new owner John Williams and his stepson Jared Moretti invigorated the local favorite. After some renovations cosmetically and in the kitchen – Islands Fish Grill has a fresh look and taste. The new thinking still focuses on fresh and local, serving only high-quality and mainly local fish. The interior showcases artwork by Florida artists on the walls, placing it within the upscale casual setting that the regulars know and love.

Jared Moretti is a classically trained chef and graduate of The Culinary Institute of America located in Hyde Park, New York. His mother’s family has been in the restaurant business for years so it seemed a logical next step for him to have his own restaurant. After working for Disney and other local restaurants, he was ready to venture out on his own. When he expressed an interest to his family, John was on board and ready to support him in a new endeavor.

After coming from a corporate background, the career change has been energizing. “This is a different twist on life for me,” John said.

While Jared’s talents are centered in the kitchen, John makes sure every approach of Islands Fish Grill runs smoothly.

Specials and features change regularly based on the season. Popular starters are the Bluepoint Oysters, mussels in marinara or caper cream sauce and the well-known Caesar salad. The menu at Islands Fish Grill is focused on what the restaurant is recognized for – serving up high-quality fresh fish. Customers’ favorite entrees are the famous onion crusted grouper, snapper, cobia and triple tail. Fish is prepared either grilled, blackened or jerked. If grilled, entrees can be served with creamy dill sauce, nut butter or tangy mango salsa.

The entrees’ sides don’t play second fiddle. Fish is served with a truly tasty rice and fresh, pickled vegetables. Yes, pickled. The vegetables are a crisp and refreshing complement to the fresh fish.

If you’re not in the mood for something from the sea, Islands Fish Grill has options for you. Good ones too, including an 8 oz. filet mignon served with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The chicken piccata and chicken marsala are also enjoyable options.

The restaurant is now family-friendly too with a kid-friendly menu that
