4th Annual Space Coast Promise Walk
Registration is free for the national awareness event fundraising for Preeclampsia Foundation. Preeclampsia is one of the leading causes of premature birth and affects as many as 300,000 mothers and babies in the United States each year. Affecting at least 5-8% of all pregnancies, it is a rapidly progressive condition characterized by high blood pressure and usually the presence of protein in the urine. Swelling, sudden weight gain, headaches and changes in vision are important symptoms; however, some women with rapidly advancing disease report few symptoms. Globally, 10 million mothers develop preeclampsia each year. There are no known causes for preeclampsia and the only “cure” starts with the often premature delivery of the baby with some mothers become worse before they get better. Even smaller number will develop preeclampsia for the first time after delivery.
There will be kids activities and raffles. Fun for all! It is a day of hope and promise – a promise that one day there will be a treatment for preeclampsia.
