Featured Artist in the Window at Studios of Cocoa Beach
Debora Tweedie of Indian Harbour Beach is the Featured Artist at the Studios of Cocoa Beach. An award winning nature photographer, Debora also creates unique marine sculptures from palm fibers.
Although the Studios of Cocoa Beach will not open until June, the artists invite you to visit the the Studios at 165 Minuteman Causeway in downtown Cocoa Beach and check the large display in the gallery window plus the adjacent storefront. One of Debora’s mounted fanatasea fish “Cruising”is the prize in our monthly giveaway and since we are not open, you can enter by scanning a QR code in the window!
Debora has taken photos since childhood, inspired by her father, an interior designer with a darkroom ”behind the coal furnace”. The ocean has been central to her life, so she majored in Marine Biology plus graduate work in Marine Geology. The search for a job lead her to teaching and she taught for 36 years. She and her daughter Morgan, also a teacher, were recently inducted into the Viera High School Hall of Fame for their work with the National Ocean Science Academic Team, as well as coaching tennis and the swim team.
Debora’s lifestyle and career have been centered on the marine environment, so naturally her photography features the ocean and its inhabitants. “I always carry a camera You never know when you will see the perfect shot.” Her Fantasea Fish are made from palm seed sheaths and reflect her knowledge of fish anatomy plus a vivid use of color.
Until we can all meet in person, you can view Debora’s work in the Studios windows, online at www.studiosofcocoabeach.org, and at the Studios Facebook page.
