Join us for an insider’s tour of Ubuhle Women: Beadwork and the Art of Independence! Curator Bev Gibson is the co-founder of the Ubuhle Beads artist collective. What started as a humble project, using traditional skills to create independence and economic opportunities for rural artists, has become an international movement in contemporary art highlighted by Smithsonian Magazine, The Washington Post and many others. By being recognized as international artists, these women have challenged the traditional perception of rural women and showcased them as the dignified, gifted, dedicated artists that they are.  Gibson’s talk will highlight her unique relationship with the artists, their work, and community.
