Rolling Readers Space Coast Literacy and Libations
Rolling Readers Space Coast Literacy and Libations event to start its Season of Giving Campaign
December 1, 2020, 6-pm-8pm, Live stream via Facebook
Rolling Readers Space Coast, Inc. a non-profit who has been providing trained volunteers to read to and tutor elementary aged children in the Space Coast area since 1997, will roll out its annual, “Literacy and Libations” event on December 1, 2020 via live stream on Facebook, 6pm-8pm. This will be the kickoff event for Rolling Readers Space Coast month long, “Season of Giving” Campaign.
Literacy and Libations is an annual fall event presented by Rolling Readers Space Coast. However, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, a decision was made to host the event virtually over Facebook so all of the followers and friends of the organization can participate in the festivities as usual. “For the past few years, we have held an event recognizing, ‘Literacy Advocates’. These are people who have invested time, talent and resources to make a difference in the lives of children in support of reading in the Space Coast area.” said, Jo Haight Sarling, President of the Board of Directors, Rolling Readers Space Coast. “This year, we are honoring one literacy advocate– Vice Mayor for the City of Melbourne, Yvonne Minus, and continuing with our 2nd year of awarding the Rolling Readers Legacy Award, this year to two honorees, both who have been with us volunteering and reading to area children for over 23 years, Katherine Robinson and Kaye Koines”, said Sarling.
Michael F. Payne, Sr., Executive Director, Rolling Readers Space Coast, Inc. added, “We are excited as always to give honor to these great women who have contributed so much to our efficacy and organizational effectiveness. Yet, we are mindful that this is a difficult year for all who are involved in the support and education of area children. We had to make an adjustment in this annual presentation and embed it in our annual season of giving campaign, but we feel as though that we will be able to offer an enjoyable online experience for those attending, while still raising money to support the educational pursuit of children. Rolling Readers Space Coast’s Season of Giving campaign will last the whole month of December, but this event is the kickoff for supporters and friends to support our mission.” Payne also said, “Make no mistake; our driving ambition is to give kids a chance at a happy productive life.”
The event is open to the general public and can be accessed by simply clicking on Rolling Readers Space Coast Facebook page. There will be a silent auction that will have items ranging from trips to specially crafted gift baskets. Also, a special musical performance by the local band, “Soultime” will be injected into the live stream. The event will be hosted by Spectrum 13 News Anchor, Eric Levy.
PNC Bank, Widerman and Malek, Brevard Business News, AAUW, VacationsBecause and a host of other sponsors and private donors have made this event possible.
