Sharad-Vyas

Pediatrics, Palm Bay | President of Brevard Indo American Medical Association (BIMDA)

At a young age, Dr. Sharad Vyas had a strong desire to be a doctor. Born in Rajpipla in the state of Gujrat, India, he felt that being a doctor was his calling in life.

He graduated from India’s prestigious Maharaja Sayajirao University, Baroda Medical College. His first overseas trip was to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; to complete his Educational Council for Foreign Medical Graduates’ qualifying exam, after which he arrived in New York in 1975. After completing his residency program in pediatrics from the Jewish Hospital and Medical Center of Brooklyn he moved to Florida in 1979.

Dr. Vyas was the first pediatrician to start a pediatric practice in Palm Bay in 1979 and has been promoting health in the community since then. In his practice he treats newborns and children until the age of 18. As a pediatrician he is involved in every stage of his patients’ development – in good health and sickness. His practice involves providing preventive health maintenance for healthy children and medical care for those that are sick.

“I love and enjoy my work and cannot imagine having chosen any other profession than medicine, nor any specialty other than pediatrics.” Dr. Vyas said.

Dr. Vyas admits that being around children is never dull. During an office visit one day he remembers a patient’s mom telling him, “We asked our son what he wants to be when he grows up and he said ‘when I grow up I want to be Dr. Vyas.’”

He is the current president of BIMDA, a membership based medical association and a leading society of its kind in Florida. His association with BIMDA started in 2002 when BIMDA held its First Medical Expo. In June of this year BIMDA will be showcased on a national level at the AAPI conference to be held in Orlando.
