So as I’m writing this month’s note, I’m nursing a minor sunburn that snuck up on me while at the photo shoot for this month’s cover at the beautiful new Sawgrass Lakes community center in West Melbourne. Despite getting started just after 8 a.m., the Florida heat and humidity reminded me summer was right around the corner and made me wish I had brought a bathing suit so I could jump in the pool and cool off with our cover model family, Sara and Jeff McNamara and their sons, Jayden and JJ.

By the time you’re reading this, the summer solstice has passed and we are officially into the summer season on the Space Coast — the kids are out of school, most of the winter visitors have returned to their homes up north, and the pools, beaches and air conditioners are getting daily workouts.

While the number of fundraisers and community events taper off this time of year, there are still many local celebrations to put on the calendar, starting with a couple of 4th of July favorites: Symphony Under the Stars in Riverfront Park, which features a free performance of the Brevard Symphony Orchestra followed by a spectacular fireworks display over the Indian River, and the Great American Celebration at Space Coast Stadium in Viera, which includes a Manatees baseball game, barbecue and fireworks.

Speaking of dazzling displays and inspiring performances, this month’s edition also looks at some local weddings and the creative themes these newlyweds and their matrimonial teams took to bring friends, family and the Florida tropics together to create beautiful lifelong memories. From a farm to a backyard, and from a resort to the zoo, each of our featured weddings found unique ways to bring local flavor to their nuptials.

Looking at these young couples reminded me of another pair of kids who braved the Florida heat for a June wedding thirty years ago. Still the most beautiful bride I’ve ever seen, let me take this opportunity to wish my wife, Jamie, a happy 30th anniversary and thank her for three decades of happiness and companionship. Like most married couples who reach this milestone, we have worked together over the years to overcome the challenges life throws at you in order to enjoy the many blessings that hard work, faith, family and character ultimately deliver.

Congratulations to all our featured brides and grooms and may you too be blessed with a lifetime partner who not only inspires and unconditionally supports you, but also looks out for you and reminds you to apply sunscreen when going outside!

Have a great summer,

Josh Field
