A Personalized Approach to Memory Care in Brevard County

What if someone you love began to show signs of memory loss, symptoms of Alzheimer’s or a related dementia? Would you know how or where to go for help and care? When the time came to move to increased care, would you know where to turn?

If you have a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia or another memory impairment, you know how challenging it can be to find quality care that meets your expectations as well as your loved one’s needs.

inspired-living palm bayInspired Living at Palm Bay is a safe and secure environment that was designed and built for memory care. Inspired Living provides personalized care with assisted living services specifically designed for those with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia or other memory impairments. Residents are at the center of their care, forming the foundation for a unique approach tailored to meet individual needs and preferences.

The development is a warm and welcoming place that feels like home from the moment you walk in the door. The large living room is the first space that family and visitors enter. Images on the walls of Shirley Temple, Frank Sinatra, and other icons are familiar visual cues for residents. Picture cues are known to improve communication, promote independence and reduce anxiety for adults with memory and cognitive challenges due to dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

The property includes 58 apartments, each with a private bath and walk-in shower. Three size options are available including a studio, single and companion suites. Families are invited to decorate their living areas as they wish, bringing in family photos, furniture or personal items to truly make this space their home. Outside each room, the resident has a memory box with pictures and mementos that serve as helpful memory cues as well.

An expansive, enclosed sensory garden offers residents daily opportunities to enjoy the outdoors within a secure environment. This park-like setting has comfortable seating areas for relaxing or socializing. Residents can walk along the easily accessible paths while care is there if they need it. The space even includes a putting green for the golf enthusiasts. The entire property is secured through a state-of-the-art program called Skynet -— residents wear wristbands and staff can locate any resident, anywhere on the premises. A keyless entry system ensures secure access to suites and security cameras and staff check-in sensors keep caregivers connected to residents.

“We provide as much independence as safely possible,” Michele Lyon, executive director, explained. All care for residents is integrated including licensed nursing care, available seven days a week, onsite therapy services and more. A dietician approved menu utilizes fresh ingredients and focuses on serving dishes containing “power foods.”  Two dining rooms are available so guests have a choice in their dining style.

Residents are encouraged to continue a favorite hobby or to explore new activities according to their interests. “We want our residents to be happy

Part of that is truly making it feel like home so there are no restrictive visiting hours. An open-door policy allows families the freedom and convenience to spend time with a loved one whenever they wish, for as long as they wish. “The staff is always here to assist,” James Brassard, community relations director, said. “We are always here to answer our phones and we make ourselves available.”
